This whole article is basically the reviewer saying, “Waaaah, why doesn’t Hobsbawm talk more about Trotsky in his book?!” interspered with some of the most bizarre praise of Trotsky I’ve ever read (humanity’s greatest thinker, a Nietzschean uebermensch, etc.). This kind of nonsense is what you get when you interpret literally everything through the lens of “Stalinism” and a line struggle from 90 years ago.

why won’t malheureuxmarxist come back? :(

i mostly couldn’t understand things he posted, but i liked him on my dash

He put up a post at his Wordpress blog where he says:

I deleted my tumblr a couple days ago, I’ve been dealing with some offline stuff so I’m taking some time to do some self-care. I’m still following a handful of people’s tumblrs on rss, thanks for everyone’s kind and funny words.

also lol @ that tag. ‘Tankie’ is meant to be an insult aimed at supporters of the Soviet Union who were in favour of the suppression of the 1956 Hungarian revolution, and the Prague Spring in 1968 (i.e. they were in favour of “sending in the tanks”, hence “tankie”). More generally, a tankie is a supporter of the Brezhnev Doctrine. They are, as far as I know, something of a minority among supporters of the USSR. In Mal’s words, they adopted the name for themselves because “it sounds cool”.
